The 1920s1928 - The year of construction1928 was a quiet year:
Otherwise, it was an uneventful time on the world political front. The "prosperity" of the "Roaring Twenties".The Roaring Twenties took place between 1922 and 1929, but the years from 1924 to 1928 were particularly prosperous during this era. GermanyThe German economy improved significantly following the currency reform in 1923.
It also flourished as a result of the numerous American loans that were flowing into the country. In 1928, the unemployment level in the Weimar Republic was only 1 million. Even the turbulent political situation up to 1923 stabilised considerably in following years.
The sport of sailing in Germany also returned to normal: In 1928, the DSV (German Yacht-Racing Union) re-joined the IYRU after it had been expelled from the International Yacht Racing Union because of the First World War. In the same year, Germany also took part in the sailing Olympics. People were enjoying life wherever possible. A complacent conservatism reigned over the wide circles of wealthy citizens around the world. In 1928 in the USA, the new president, Hoover, called this "rugged individualism". USAEven in the USA, the twenties were a time of uninterrupted prosperity. The USA developed into the first mass-consumption society. Conveyer-belt production set the pace. Here people began to think in completely different dimensions. It is therefore easy to understand why, in 1928, the New York Yacht Club ordered the speedy construction of six identical large yachts on sporting grounds - purely for regatta sailing. Mass production became standard. AnitraWhile the 12-metre R-Yacht Anitra was being built, the economic situation and the entire era itself were in full swing - the Roaring Twenties. This is reflected in the yacht. The end - 1929In the often blind euphoria, the first signs of any crisis were overlooked. Indeed, this phase of worldwide economic growth first came to an end in the consciousness of the people with the stock exchange crash on Black Friday, the 24th of October 1929. |
