Removing the bolts

In 1928, each keel bolt was inserted into the keel from underneath and then sealed, as a result, we now had the difficult task of drilling up all the bolts and then removing them.

It was tedious to locate the exact position of each bolt and then slowly free the area around them.

While the work was being done on the hull, the ballast bolts were checked for their material properties. Defect bolts will be replaced with new bolts of the same alloy.
