Partial reconstruction of wooden frames

Partial replacement

Partial replacement

The old frames were either completely reconstructed or partly rebuilt, depending their condition.
Wherever possible, old frame components were kept and only the decaying pieces were replaced.
To do this, the new pieces were fitted on to the old piece and then glued together under pressure.

Stable joint

Stable joint

The overlapping joint of the old and new wood should be as long as possible to ensure stability and durability.

The new frames are hafted to the old frames by using coaks, which are glued with epoxy resin. The length of the coak is about ten times the thickness of the frame.

Later, when the yacht is being planked, these frames are riveted to the planks. The copper rivets are 5 mm thick.
