Elegant Form

The new stem gives the 12-m R-Yacht back her classic elegant shape.

The overhang above the water-line, visible here, is 13 ft (4.20 metres) in length.

Rabbet

You can see the rabbet on both sides of the stem, into which the planks will be anchored later.

This shot from underneath, clearly shows the pattern of the planks as they meet the stem.

The planks are later attached to the stem, keel, stern post, transom beam and transom using bronze screws (10x90mm)

Support

Support

The new stem is now used again as the supporting section of the yacht, and wooden blocks are placed underneath for extra support.

The enormous size of the stem really then becomes apparent when you look towards the bow with the keel at eye-level.
