Keel bolts

Holding

Only relatively few keel bolts are holding the 14.3 ton lead onto the hull. They are, however, particularly large in size.

Different positions and lengths

In this photo (taken from astern), you can clearly see that the keel bolts were inserted both along the mid-ship's line and out of line on the side.

Proportions

Here you can see the thickness of the bolts compared to the boat builder’s arms.
The size of the bolt screw nuts is even more impressive in comparison to the size of the boat builder’s head behind them.

The nuts and bolts are made of bronze.
