Dismantling the wooden frames

Severe damage

Severe damage

The frames and floor plates that were removed, turned out to be in unexpectedly poor condition in some parts.

We had to replace all the decaying and broken wooden frames.

Removing the clench bolts

Here you can see how the copper nails are pulled out, so that we can then remove the wooden frame.

With so many copper nails required to hold one single frame, you can imagine just how time-consuming it is to remove every wooden frame in the 21 meter yacht.

Securing the metal frames

When we removed the wooden frames, it was clear that some of the old planks were no longer fixed to the remaining planks. For this reason, planks at some steel frames had to be secured with large washers.

This is the only way our boat builders could continue to walk inside the hull to carry out their work without affecting the shape of the hull.
