An e-mail, a journey, the purchase of a wreck

After years of searching in vain for a suitable 12-metre R-Yacht to restore, I received an unexpected e-mail from the USA shortly before Christmas 2002. Mike Muessel, an old acquaintance and fan of classic yachts, who visited me here in Radolfzell about twelve years ago, and is himself owner of the sister ship of the "Hadumoth", informed me that such a yacht was located in Newport (Rhode Island) and for sale. In this case it was one of six 12-m R-Yachts built in 1928 by Abeking & Rasmussen for American customers.

Inspection

In January 2003, I flew to the USA with my business and sailing partner to inspect the wreck Anitra and the restored Onawa.

Despite the yachts desolate condition; we decided to purchase the Anitra on the 21st of January 2003.
